The Queen of the Sea, riding upon a fish, is taking a tour of her domain. She is accompanied by her arrogant counselor, a bodyguard riding a crustacean, and a scout. Mermaids dance about them as they pass in review, serene and regal. Near the bottom of the painting, hidden in detail, lurks the evil Moray eel. Christensen is known as one of America's leading fantasy artists. Fantasies of the Sea is typical of his art which often depicts fish, mermaids, gnarly old men and hunchbacks. |
